Ushers are often referred to as the Ministry of Hospitality, as they are often the first people of contact and greeting for parishioners. They are entrusted with promoting a sense of welcome and belonging at Holy Spirit Parish. Typically, ushers work in teams of three and have several key responsibilities, including:
- • Preparing and closing the church before and after services, which involves unlocking and locking doors and managing the lighting (turning the lights on and off).
- • Assisting with seating as needed.
- • Facilitating the collection of offerings during Mass and securing its deposit afterward.
- • Directing the congregation to ensure a reverent and orderly process for Communion.
On special occasions, ushers distribute materials such as Bulletins or assist with items needed for participation during or after Mass. Additionally, ushers are required to be prepared to handle any emergencies or special situations that may arise during a service. Full training is provided.
